XenServer the best solution for XenApp

fter doing close to a 100 customer meetings, and talking about how to virtualize their XenApp environment, I really wanted to write down something about just that.

Before I go off, I want to say, if you are planning on going virtual with your Citrix XenApp servers and you have VMware in house already, then you need to check this out!
I've been having an ongoing discussion now for about a year, with the VMware people at the office about what's the best virtualization platform for Citrix XenApp? I say XenServer, because it's FREE, it's now made by Citrix, it's quick to install, quick to optimize for XenApp, and also since Citrix owns it, it is and will be in the future also the best solution all together.
While the VMware people say that they can probably with some hours/days etc of tuning get the same performance on VMware vSphere 4, as we have on the XenServer when it comes to XenApp today, that just don't add up from my point of view!

Why? Because customers then need to pay for some VMware consultant doing this tuning, as to just push a simple but highly effective button in XenServer called "Optimize for XenApp". Voila, the XenApp server is optimized. Now how to you defend that, as to paying consultant hours to get somewhat the same performance? And what happens with these customers tweaks when you upgrade to a new version of VMware vSphere 4? or 5(when that comes out)? Well, you probably need to do it all again, and pay the same amount for the tuning a second time around.
That just doesn’t add up in my head, simple button, or hours/days of tuning? You decide for yourself, I know what I recommend and tell my customers, do you?
